STATUS: Auxiliary
NO. OF POSITIONS: 1-2
UNION: CUPE, Local 387
HOURS OF WORK: Various Hours
(3-8 hours per week) SALARY: $27.20 to $29.46 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits

The City of New Westminster Parks & Recreation Department is recruiting for auxiliary recreation instructors to plan and lead language programs. We are looking for candidates that are passionate about sharing their expertise providing conversational language instruction for adults who wish to learn a new language. Language program opportunities could include Cantonese, French, Mandarin, Punjabi, Spanish, Tagalog or other languages.

Successful candidates will be enthusiastic and will have experience working with adults and interest or experience in teaching language programs. Candidates interested in these opportunities must possess excellent leadership, organizational and customer service skills. Opportunity to instruct other programs and other age groups including preschool and children language based programs may also be available based on experience.

Responsibilities:
• Provide guidance and general leadership according to the nature and requirements of the program
• Assist in planning assigned recreational programs and provide instruction
• Promote interest and enthusiasm in recreation programs and ensure safe and proper use of equipment and the facilities
• Perform related work as required

Requirements Include:
• Standard First Aid;
• CPR C Certificate;
• Minimum of 1 year experience instructing classes;
• An intermediate level of proficiency (both written and verbal) in the language of instruction;
• Excellent communication and listening skills;
• The ability to motivate others to help achieve their goals;
• Strong interpersonal skills with the necessary experience and training;
• The successful candidate will be required to pass and maintain a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
