Position Summary
We are seeking an Indigenous Community Engagement Advisor, who will collaborate closely with members of BGC Canada and BGC Canada’s Club-based Truth and Reconciliation Committee to:
1. Support BGC Canada and Clubs in furthering relationships and trust with Indigenous communities across Canada and, where appropriate and supported by local relationships, to serve more Indigenous children and youth with high quality and relevant programming.
2. Support BGC Canada in developing a national Indigenous Advisory Circle.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop Club tools and resources and work directly with specific Club leaders to build and further relationships and trust with Indigenous leaders and communities and, where appropriate, serve more Indigenous children and youth through high quality and relevant programming
• Support BGC Canada’s Executive Team efforts on reconciliation through the development of an Indigenous Advisory Circle that will provide high-level guidance to BGC Canada in the further development of strategy and operational plans that aim to strengthen BGC Canada’s engagement with, and support of, Indigenous Peoples and communities.
• Develop guidelines and recommendations that support services to succeed on & off Indigenous lands

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:
• Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in Indigenous issues in Canada, including Indigenous governance, community development, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action.
• Relevant post-secondary education in community engagement, Indigenous studies or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of five years experience liasing and cultivating meaningful, respectful, and reciprocal relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations.
• Proven success in convening a group of diverse stakeholders to achieve project goals
• Passionate about working with and contributing to the prosperity of Indigenous peoples, communities and organizations.
• Expressive and persuasive in both spoken and written formats for individual and group situations.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills.
• Forward thinking and in touch with current engagement trends.
• Self-identifying as First Nation, Métis or Inuit and/or having first-hand knowledge or experience with Indigenous communities and culture is strongly preferred.
