Vision:
We are seeking to secure a Culture Coordinator for our Culture Department. The Culture Coordinator will play a vital role in supporting the development, delivery, and management of cultural programs and services. Working closely with Council, managing Four Family Representatives, and the community, they lead efforts to stabilize, document, and share cultural knowledge, foster collaboration, and contribute to a thriving cultural legacy. A vital piece to this role will be in aiding with the development and execution of a 5-year plan for WMFN’s Four Pillars Funding.
Scope:
The Culture Coordinator oversees the preservation and promotion of cultural knowledge, language, and traditions. This role provides leadership to the Culture Department, assisting with daily operations, program development, and oversight. By collaborating with Council, managing Family Representatives, and external partners, the Coordinator fosters the flow of cultural resources, promotes cultural safety, and advances strategic initiatives like WMFN’s 5-year plan for Four Pillars Funding.
This position oversees cultural events, workshops, and knowledge preservation, including managing language recordings and creating cultural displays. It strengthens community connections through trauma-informed practices and builds relationships with key stakeholders. Additionally, the role secures funding through grant writing and partners with institutions to integrate cultural elements into their programs.
The Culture Coordinator also handles administrative duties such as committee meetings, reporting, and staff performance management. By driving engagement, gathering community feedback, and implementing sustainable programs, the Coordinator ensures the Culture Department’s initiatives honor and sustain cultural identity for future generations.
Responsibilities:
• Provides leadership and direction to the Culture Department, administering the committee and assisting Council with oversight of the Department. The four Family Representatives (Staff of the Culture Department) work together as a committee to coordinate the flow of cultural information to and from their Family Group, and to build and implement cultural resources, programs and services for the community.
• Supervises and oversees the work of the four Family Representatives engaging in day to day oversight, work planning, performance reviews and overall management of the team
• Works respectfully and collaboratively with an Indigenous and cultural safety awareness lens to support members and the community.
• Builds relationships with other initiatives and key knowledge holders in and outside of the community.
• Provides guidance and assistance to community members on culturally relevant practices.
• Assists in organizing cultural events, workshops, recruitments or volunteers to WMFN as required.
• Organizes Committee meetings, agendas, minutes, etc.
• Reports to Council monthly, and otherwise when appropriate.
• Acts as WMFN’s Community Contact with the Four Pillar Society for the purposes of WMFN’s Four Pillars Funding and supports the 5-year plan by providing administrative support.
• Assists the Committee with planning and implementation of its responsibilities.
• Assists Council with HR administration (timesheet approval, leave approval).
• Develops and Assists Council with performance management processes (including administering annual WMFN Membership feedback process, and annual performance review for staff).
• Develops processes and a written plan to gather more feedback, participation, and involvement from community members about Culture Department annually.
• Handles the storage of language recordings and cultural knowledge, and sharing with the community such as developing and installing language and/or cultural displays
• Writes grant proposals to secure funding supporting programs.
• Develops staff performance management process and assists Council with annual performance reviews for department staff.
• Partners with municipalities and institutions regarding language and culture in their programs and protocols.
• Maintains secure and organized filing systems.
• Attends scheduled department staff meetings.
• Performs related work as assigned.
• Works respectfully and collaboratively with an Indigenous and cultural safety awareness lens to support members and the community
• Building relationships with other initiatives and key knowledge holders in and outside of the community
• Providing guidance and assistance to community members on culturally relevant practices
Expected Project Deliverables and Timelines:
• The final deliverable will be the final submission of the 5-year plan for WMFN’s Four Pillars Funding
